Diversity and inclusion

Having a diverse team that reflects the clients and communities we serve provides different perspectives and results in better decisions. We live our Inclusion has Power value by supporting a culture of inclusion where all our team members feel a strong sense of belonging and have equitable opportunities to succeed.

OUR APPROACH

Tone at the top Continued progress on our diversity and inclusion strategy requires strong engagement with our leaders. Each year, we add new ways for leaders to learn how to recognize and mitigate bias, build and nurture diverse teams, create an open culture of acceptance, and lead inclusively. In 2022, we introduced: • An inclusive interview guide for leaders hiring new talent; • A module in our Recruiting Teal Talent online learning program for hiring leaders focused on eliminating bias in the recruitment process; • An executive learning session on Indigenous ways of knowing; • A series of workshops for leaders on bias and anti-racism; and, • A panel at the annual leadership conference, hosted by our CWB Pride ERG, to tackle issues that impact our LGBTQ2S+ team members.

Our HR Committee provides board oversight of our diversity and inclusion strategy and our Executive team has accountability for its development and execution. We have an inclusion and diversity team that supports development and execution of key priorities to dismantle systemic barriers and encourage a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace, supported by an Employee Equity Committee. We remain committed to four critical elements of diversity and inclusion. We are focused to: • Ensure our policies, processes and practices remain free of discrimination, and identify systemic biases that may exist that we need to address; • Educate our teams about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace; • Support marginalized team members through ERGs and provide opportunities to amplify their voices; and, • Be intentional with our talent acquisition, development, and retention strategies to improve long-term representation of marginalized groups.
