Overview
Growing our leaders Our leaders play a critical role in inspiring, empowering and retaining our talented teams, and we are focused on hiring and developing leaders who embody our values and have a passion for developing talent. In addition to providing our leaders with customized learning opportunities and resources, such as mentorship, executive coaching, and financial support for continued education, we offer programs that are specifically designed to support our current and aspiring leaders, including:
Aspiring Leaders
A program to help future leaders create a focused leadership development plan and learn about topics such as building and sustaining trust, communicating with impact, and feedback and listening.
Essentials in Leadership
A program to support new leaders transitioning into leadership roles to develop skills to drive change, execute strategy and maximize team collaboration and performance.
Mentoring Circles
Led by experienced leaders, mentoring circles provide a safe environment for leaders to navigate challenges with access to broader perspectives and insights.
Leader as Coach
A program focused on supporting our leaders in developing skills related to empowering and unlocking their team’s potential and maximizing individual and team performance.
Leader engagement in learning and development We leverage the size of our organization to provide broad access to our senior leadership team as part of learning and development activities. Our senior leaders participate in new hire orientation, ongoing live chats and townhalls, frequent banking centre visits, and the direct delivery of training. For example, we focused on Cash Flow Lending in 2023 by equipping our Commercial and Credit Risk Management teams with specialized knowledge in partnership with Moody’s Analytics who designed a customized course for CWB.

The year-over-year decreases in learning and development metrics in 2023 primarily reflected a reduction in in-person learning delivery. CWB leveraged virtual learning capabilities and increased the use of job aids supporting our agile, responsive, just-in- time training approach, as opposed to formal learning sessions.
